I had the opportunity to present our work on place-based adaptive capacity, climate change, and rural health at the BC Rural Health Conference on Saturday, May 30, 2026 in Prince George, BC. The poster explored how relationships, local knowledge, community assets, and ongoing learning can help strengthen health and resilience in rural, remote, and Indigenous communities. I attended the conference for the poster session, where I was able to share the work with researchers, medical learners, and others working across rural and northern health. I also spent time exploring the other posters and speaking with folks working on topics ranging from community engagement and rural healthcare access to technology, innovation, and climate resilience. While I really enjoyed all of these conversations, I was particularly encouraged by the number of medical students I had the opportunity to speak with and benefited greatly from hearing their perspectives on the strengths and limitations of their education in preparing them to address complex and interconnected climate and health challenges. Overall, it was especially interesting to see how often very different areas and specialties connected back to similar questions about place and connection to land, relationships, and the ways these shape local capacity and community resilience.
